Weather in Minorca

climate and weather in minorcaMinorca is a low-key island in the Mediterranean, less noisy than the party islands of Mallorca and Ibiza. It is one of the few Spanish islands immune to the influence of tourist hype, a place to meander along cobbled streets of quiet traditional towns, stow away in secluded coves and explore ancient ruins. Some locals even believe that the island’s calm and familiar atmosphere has something special, spiritual, to offer travellers– a very different energy from the club destinations of Mallorca and Ibiza. The weather is much like that on other Mediterranean islands, hot and dry from May to October, and wet and cool during the rest of the year.

May to October is warm and dry, with enough sunshine to call Menorca the gold coast. Average temperatures don’t drop below 14°C (57°F) and, in July and August, will rise to 29°C (84°F), rarely below 20°C (68°F). Even though October is the wettest month of the year, it is still only 85mm (3.3in), while, from May to September, most rainfall is under 30mm (1.1in).

The rest of the year, from November to April, is typically under 20°C (68°F) and rainfall exceeds 50mm most months. Even so, it is still a mild place and temperatures rarely reach below 8°C (64°F) in January and February, the coldest months.

May and September is shoulder season, and this is a great time to come to avoid the main crowds and enjoy fantastic weather. In addition, these months are easier for walking as the light showers keep travellers cool in the warm weather.

When is the best time to go to Minorca?

The weather is the best between May and October, the sun is shining, the days are long and there is little rain in the hot weather. May and early-June, as well as September and October, are less busy than the July and August rush. Explore the surrounding, more popular islands during May or September in order to avoid the crowds there, and then come here, to Minorca, where there are far less tourists during peak season.
