Central Thailand and Bangkok enjoys well-nigh perfect holiday weather in December. Average temperatures range between a maximum of 30°C (86°F) and 25°C (77°F), humidity levels average 76% and there is little or no rain during the month – ideal for sightseeing and shopping.
Eastern Thailand – Ko Chang and surrounding islands – also enjoys sunshine and moderate temperatures. Of the southern coasts the east (Andaman) is the best bet for a holiday with only very occasional showers, temperatures hovering around a maximum average of 27°C (80.6°F), while the Gulf Coast is a little wetter with a brief shower every other day.
Northern Thailand is the coolest part of the country in December, with Chang Mai experiencing night-time temperatures as low as 15°C (59°F). Days are sunny and comfortable with little or no rain: just right for a trekking holiday.

Worth watching in Bangkok’s Royal Plaza in the first week of December is the colourful Trooping of the Colour ceremony, held in honour of the King’s birthday. The city is dressed up in lights and decorations for the occasion and a festival is held at Sanam Luang field.
Phuket is the venue in December for Asia’s top yachting event, the King’s Cup Regatta, with international competitors taking part.
